Dr. Slate Burris

Dr. Slate Burris received his degree in Philosophy at Bucknell University. After a year in China under the tutelage of Master Wang Si Ping, he completed his Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. He later received his Doctorate from Pacific College of Oriental medicine.

He was for several years an ardent student of Kiiko Matsumoto’s and Tung’s styles of acupuncture. Through his study in the classics and clinical experience, over the past decade he has developed Neoclassical Acupuncture, a palpatory technique based on a 6 element model with instant results on both root and symptomatic levels. He moved to Mexico in 2008 to organize free clinics in the mountains of Oaxaca and Michoacan. He remains in Mexico where he travels extensively giving over 40 tw0-day seminars annually. In 2019 he published Neoclassical Acupuncture. A Russian translation of the same was released in September 2021.

The style of acupuncture that I have been using in prisons, immigrant shelters, impoverished mountain communities, Palestinian refugee camps, my private clinic, and the very system taught in our international courses, has transformed the practice of hundreds of acupuncturists and, more importantly, has changed the lives of thousands of patients.

Neoclassical Acupuncture takes us on an exciting odyssey into China’s ancient past to examine one of the greatest enigmas of classical Eastern medicine. At the heart of the journey lies the most perplexing organ: the pericardium. It is in the subterranean darkness of a minor nobleman’s tomb that the mystery of the Pericardium begins. A mystery that would cause a leading 18th century scholar to ask, “In the last three thousand years this has never been finally resolved… Why should misunderstanding and delusion of mankind be created just for” the Pericardium and its companion the Triple Burner? ? Following this solitary organ from its obscure origins, we discover the astonishing answer, while taking in an exciting look across the ancient landscapes from which a highly effective but heretofore lost method of acupuncture emerged. Here, for the first time, a revolutionary version of that forgotten system is exposed in detail.

I appreciate Slate’s fresh perspective on some deeply rooted theory that proves useful in a clinical setting. What is particularly appealing to me is the efficacy of this palpation approach to diagnosis and evaluation of patients and subsequent treatment strategies. I encourage anyone who is looking to expand their toolkit beyond what is typically accepted as the norm in Chinese Medical practice to explore this unique approach to patient care.

    Clinically very useful

I’m an acupuncturist looking to get beyond the mainstream TCM teachings and some of the well-known styles from Master Tung or Kiiko Matsumoto. Mr. Burris provides a comprehensive approach to treatments rooted in classical texts but easily accessible to the modern clinician. The writing is both intellectually interesting but also quite practical and to the point. The author has clearly used his methods to great success. I poured through the book in a single day.

Acupuncture is not just my profession but my passion. This book is so beautifully written taking one through the history of the thinking behind the historical progression of elements theory in Chinese Medicine, it’s politics and misunderstandings. And shows an acupuncture method that is simpler and effective. Can’t wait for the online course to start. Thank you Dr Burris for all your hard work and selfless dedication.

The best book I had ever read, Easy to understand, It gives you so much history and appreciation for the profession of acupuncturist. An inside how politics shaped the modern “TCM”. An inside in history of long lost medical knowledge, and how that knowledge, came back from the graveto show us what real acupuncture is about. Mr. Burris definitely is worthy of a nobel prize…Highly recommended if you want to elevate your practice at the clinic. Thank you Mr. Burris for sharing this knowledge through your book

TThanks to the genius of Dr Slate Burris and his thousands of hours of collecting feedback from his patients’ bodies, he has created, rediscovered and unfolded a paradigm in energetic medicine….After studying the teachings in Dr Burris’s book and with limited understanding of his system, I commenced treating my 80 to 100 patients per week… I was delighted with each body’s immediate feedback. On placing the correct needle in the right location, the feedback is instant.
My patients and I continue to be amazed at the results by using what I’ve learnt so far. As an example, one female patient who presented with back pain has had scales on her skin for over 40 years and after her second treatment, her back pain and skin condition had completely disappeared and resolved from her body…l can only attribute it to the neoclassical acupuncture system which treats the causal pattern (and to Dr Burris’s genius).
